THE OCEAN CARE FOUNDATION

The Ocean Care Foundation’s ethos is that the ocean’s well-being is fundamental to the survival of life on earth, and is key to healthy human and economic development. Only through understanding can we effect change. The Ocean Care Foundation inspires people to protect the ocean by increasing this understanding.

The Ocean Care Foundation’s mandate is:

  • to raise awareness among the general public, policy makers and business people;
  • to support new technologies that protect the ocean;
  • to support conservation initiatives.

The Foundation’s funds come from donations and sponsoring.

The ocean …

  • has more ‘green’ than all the forests put together, thereby producing more than 70 percent of our oxygen
  • covers 71 percent of the planet’s surface
  • contains the planet’s greatest biodiversity
  • absorbs the bulk of carbon dioxide emissions
  • currents drive the planet’s climate

Deadline 7 November.

As part of the School Campaign 2008, a group of children from the De Rank primary school in the Netherlands has made a film about the ocean and the Ocean Care Foundation. They have entered their film into a competition run by the green television broadcaster LLiNK. If their film gets the most votes, the children and their film will appear on television! And they will win a prize of € 75,000 to donate to a good cause. We are thrilled that they have chosen the Ocean Care Foundation as their good cause.

Vote for ‘Hé, neem je prullenbak mee!’ (‘Hey, take your rubbish bin with you!’) and help the children come on television.
